Not many people know that I'm a gigantic fan of Berlin. There's no other place quite like it anywhere I've ever been.
She's old, Berlin - the name was first documented back in the 13th century - and she's a big, brazen, crazy capital city that was reduced to rubble (literally) in our grandparents' lifetime.
And then she was ripped into pieces by the Allied Powers following the end of the Second World War and large parts are still - even now - being rebuilt as a result.
You can grab a high speed train from almost anywhere in Western Europe and get there in a matter of hours. It's surreal.
I highly recommend it.
